Small Business Marketing
Web Design for Small Businesses
Your site gets a few seconds on a phone screen to earn the call. We design for that moment, not for a design award.
What our clients say
Trusted by small businesses
Why does my website get visitors but no calls?
Almost always one of four problems: it loads slowly on a phone, the first screen fails to say plainly what you do and where, there’s no proof a stranger can trust, or reaching you takes too many taps. A redesign that only changes the look fixes none of them. Fix those four and the same traffic starts producing leads.
The audition happens on a phone, and it’s over fast
Most of your visitors arrive on a phone, mid-task, between other things. They give your first screen a glance: can these people solve my problem, do they work near me, do they look legitimate. Pass, and they scroll. Fail, and the back button costs you a lead you already paid to attract through ads, rankings or a referral.
That framing changes what a small-business website is for. It’s a salesperson working the door, and its job is calls, quote requests and bookings. We’d rather hand you a plain-looking site that books work than a stunning one that sits quiet, though you won’t actually have to choose between them.
The judging is harsher than most owners expect. A hero photo that takes four seconds to load, a wall of paragraphs about your founding story, a menu with eleven items: each one sheds real buyers. The sites that win this audition are almost boring in their clarity. Service, area, proof and phone number all sit above the fold, legible in sunlight on a cracked screen, with nothing clever standing between the visitor and the call.
Four fixes, in the order they pay off
When a site underperforms, we work this list from the top:
- Speed: pages tuned until they pass Core Web Vitals on a mid-range phone, not just on your office wifi.
- Message: a first screen that answers what you do, where you do it and why you over the next tab.
- Proof: real reviews, real job photos, real credentials, placed where a skeptic’s eye lands.
- Contact path: a tappable phone number, a short form and online booking, never a buried contact page.
Each fix is measurable, which keeps a rebuild honest. If a change can’t plausibly move calls or bookings, it does not make the list.
Speed earns the top spot for a reason: it improves everything downstream at once. Visitors stay longer, forms get finished, Google crawls deeper and your ad costs ease. Shaving seconds off a page is unglamorous work, compressing images, cutting bloated plugins, untangling themes, but it pays rent every single day the site is live.
A weak site quietly raises the price of everything else
Here’s the part most owners never get told: your website sets the cost of your other marketing. Google scores the landing page behind every ad, and a slow or confusing page drags that score down, which means you pay more per click than a competitor spending the same budget. We see it constantly in Google Ads accounts we take over. The same mechanics cap your SEO: Google is reluctant to rank a site visitors bounce off, however good the content is. Rebuilding the site first is why our projects often make the other channels cheaper before they add a single new visitor.
If you want receipts, run your own site through Google’s free PageSpeed tool and look at the phone score, since the phone score is the one your customers live with. Most owners who call us have already seen the orange and red numbers there; we explain what those numbers cost in missed leads, then make them green.
If the last rebuild was pretty and changed nothing
We meet plenty of owners holding a receipt for a redesign that produced compliments and no customers. The miss is rarely the designer’s eye; it’s that nobody owned the outcome. Our builds ship wired for leads on day one: forms feed the CRM we built ourselves, a missed call triggers an automatic text back, and bookings land on your calendar without anyone copying and pasting. You also get the unglamorous essentials handled without asking: hosting that stays up, security updates, backups, and a monthly check that your forms still deliver. Dead contact forms are the silent killer of small-business sites; nobody notices for weeks, and every one of those weeks was paid for twice.
Then we watch the numbers and keep adjusting, because launch day is the start of the job rather than the end of it. If that’s the kind of build you’re after, book a free discovery call and we’ll scope it inside one of our packages.

Frequently asked questions
Can you fix my current site instead of starting over?
Sometimes. If the platform underneath is sound, we’ll repair speed, message and contact flow and leave the rest alone. If the foundation fights every fix, rebuilding costs less than renovating, and we’ll tell you which on the call, not after an invoice.
Will a new site lose the rankings I already have?
Not when the migration is handled properly. Every page earning traffic gets carried over or redirected one to one, and we watch Search Console through the switch. Done right, a faster site helps your rankings rather than hurting them.
Who owns the website when it’s finished?
You do. The domain, the content and the site itself are yours, and month to month means nobody can hold them hostage. If we ever part ways, you keep everything and we hand over the keys cleanly.
How involved do I have to be during the build?
A kickoff conversation, photos of real work if you have them, and feedback at two or three checkpoints. We write the copy and handle the rest. Most owners spend a couple of hours total across the whole project.
Do I need the site before running ads, or ads before the site?
Site first, almost always. Sending paid clicks to a page that can’t convert them is the most expensive way to discover your site has a problem. A tight landing page can be the first deliverable so ads start sooner.
